Masters Shine at National Masters Cross Country 5K Championships

Masters athletes were well represented at the USATF National Masters Cross
Country 5K Championship on Sunday,
October 17, 2004.
Roger
Price, 55, won the M55 division with a time of 17:02,
and finished second overall in the combined M50 and M55 race. Harry Nolan, 57, placed fourth in the M55
with a time of 17:42, Doug Brown,
59, was 12th in 19:28 and
Walter McGowan, 57, finished 50th in 21:31.
In the M50
division Gary Pierce, 52, was fifth in 17:33 with fellow Shore Athletic Club
teammate Bill Scholl, 53, eleventh in 17:49 and Tony Plaster, 52, 21st
in 18:43 and Richard Henderson, 52, 25th
in 19:15. Those four, along with Nolan
and McGowan made up the second place Shore Athletic Club team.
The Raritan Valley Road Runners
team placed first in the M60 division.
Scoring for the team were Bill Hagman, 61, who finished in third place
overall in 19:17, Pat Cosgrove, 64, whose time of 20:09 put him in 7th
place and John Nowatkowski,
60, who finished tenth in 20:27.
John
Kuhi, 60, finished 16th in 21:43
and John Saarman,
61, placed 20th in 24:41.
They, along with John Leonard, 67, who
placed fifth in the M65 division, Richard Hill, 68, who was eighth in 21:35 and
Michael McDonnell 69, tenth in 22:05 made up the Shore M60 team that placed sixth. William Richardson, 70, was seventh in his
M70 division with a time of 25:34.
In the women’s race, which was run
with all women 40 and over, Janice Morra, 46, was
second in the W45 division with a time of 19:39. Christine Murphy, 46 was sixth in 20:39. Lauren Rhatigen,
41, placed fifth in the W40 division with 19:24. Eileen Holzman, 60,
won the W60 division with a time of 24:36.
